The Good The Huawei Ascend P7's skinny, glass body looks quite classy, it has a decent camera and enough power for the everyday tasks, plus the latest version of Android on board. Is it better than they are? Cute, but hardly a game changer. Finally, there's Firefly -- not the quirky and beloved sci-fi series but a sort of Google Goggles meets Shazam meets, well, Amazon's own app. Basically, you can scan a product's bar code and find it on Amazon. You can listen to a bit of a song and find it on Amazon. You can capture a bit of a TV show and, you guessed it, find it on Amazon. It does seem genuinely useful, but again, hardly unique in the grand scheme of things.
The Fire seems like a genuinely nice phone, but is it nice enough to trump the iPhone 5S or Galaxy S5? After studying more than 6,800 iPhone and iPad apps listed in the health and fitness category during the past six months, Flurry found a 62 percent increase in usage. This is far higher than all other apps, which have seen a combined 33 percent increase in usage. This trend appears to be a big change from last year. In its report, Flurry says the overall mobile app industry grew 115 percent in 2013 in terms of average daily usage, while the health and fitness category only grew 49 percent.
