Thrill the World, a group that coordinates dancing to the King of Pop’s “Thriller” with participants from all around the globe, on Oct. 28 will attempt to break the world record for most people dancing to the early 1980s hit song. Downtown Campbell on East Campbell Avenue will be among more than a dozen locations participating worldwide. The group was founded in 2006 by Ines Markeljevivc in Toronto, Canada after she attended a public “Thriller” dance in 2005. Since then, the group has added multiple countries that partake in the dance.
This year wouldn’t be the first time the group is going for a record; in fact, the dancers may break records they’ve already set, According to the group, 1,722 people in 52 cities on five continents ivory ballet flats for wedding danced at the same time in 2007, setting two records, One record was for largest simultaneous, “Thriller” dance in the World Records Academy and the Record Holders Republic, In 2008, the group set a new record with the Record Holders Republic with 4,179 people from 10 countries dancing simultaneously..

The store is located at 2038 Lincoln Ave. in San Jose. Stevens has led the San Jose group since 2009, and she says there are approximately 30 people in each weekly workshop. Workshops will be held every Wednesday through Oct. 25, 7-8 p.m. Participants are not required to take a workshop. The dance can also be learned from various online resources.
